I’m a twenty-something millennial who has gone against mainstream consumerism. Inspired by the likes of Mr. Money Mustache, JLCollinsnh and Go Curry Cracker I’ve managed to amass a net worth of around $300,000 $450,000 in just 5 6 years after graduating college. Together, Miss QCI and I have a net worth of over $600,000. I don’t mention this to brag, but to show the potential of what a little bit of saving and smart moves can do for your finances. Even now as we have our investing, savings and spending on autopilot we continue to think about how to make our lives more efficient. The most recent example being that Miss QCI and I recently sold our second car.
We have been lucky with our careers but we never earned extraordinary salaries. Mrs.QCI once was a teacher and has since rebooted her career and started from the bottom in a corporate gig with a salary of just $30,000. She now makes around $50k and my salary has fallen to under $70k after leaving my much more lucrative career in IT. In light of my financial successes I’ve even been able to selfishly make decisions without regard to finances. In 2018 we hope to scale back work and focus more on what makes us happy.
Besides focusing on simplistic investing, real estate has played a big role in our success. I’m a small time landlord with 2 properties.
We cover many topics on the blog, but the main focus is to share:
- Net worth updates, including what’s going in our lives on a monthly basis
- The power of living in a low cost of living city and how it shortens the time to financial independence
- Local, efficient real estate investing – we have no desire to own a significant amount of rental properties
- Frugal travel adventures
